“Check Your Resilience” is the motto of CIOmove 2025 from June 26 to 29 in Dublin. Although we are far away from chaos today, things may change in the future. Check your:
- supply chains,
- energy supply and
- IT security
before geopolitics will force you.
Our keynote speaker at CIOmove 2025 is Kostiantyn Koshelenko, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Social Policy. Kostiantyn has just written the book “Management in Times of War” in which he summarizes well-known principles by authors we all know (Drucker et al.) But contrary to regular management books, you will see how Ukrainian managers from the public and private sectors are maintaining productivity, team development, and commitment to their values in an environment where chaos is becoming the new norm.
Chaos is not just created by war: At the last Gartner symposium in Barcelona the analyst Lloyd Jones presented slides about the energy consumption in times of heat pumps, electric cars, and AI: By 2026, every second G20 member will face a rising occurrence of regular electricity rationing, says Jones. As a consequence, he predicts: “Through 2027, Fortune 500 companies will shift $500 billion from energy opex to microgrids to mitigate chronic energy risks and AI demand.”
Chaos can also be created by disruptive politics: When Brexit occurred, Guus Dekkers had just become CTO of Tesco, the biggest retailer in UK (who is the largest employer in Ireland also). Brexit obviously was going to massively change the incoming supply chain, risking empty shelves in Tesco groceries, hence imposing substantial challenges on Guus’ work when he started to transform the company founded in 1919. He will report on digitalisation in a company with 330,000 employees under such challenging conditions and what CIO/CTO’s can learn from this journey to become successful disrupters.
And chaos is a constant threat when it comes to IT resilience. If an airline’s IT systems are down, all the aircraft parking positions at the airport will be full within an hour. From then on, the IT problem heavily impacts the whole air traffic, potentially even endangering the flight safety. Jochen Göttelmann, CIO of Lufthansa, explains how his airline has been able to avoid this super-GAU so far – even though excavators were hard at work in February last year.
Resilience will be a dominant topic at CIOmove 2025, but of course we will discuss other topics as well – as always. First speakers have already delivered their discussion guides on AI, cloud and security. Check the CIOmove News for more incoming topic proposals.
