Dirk Ramhorst is CIO at the chemical company Wacker and chairman of the “Kieler Woche” regatta. We ask him how he saves communication culture in the Corona era – in the company and at the world’s largest sailing regatta
Dirk Ramhorst at CIOmove NY 2019
For our next CIOmove Afterwork Session on Tuesday, September 8, at 6:30 pm CEST we will travel to Kiel, home of the World´s biggest sailing event. The Kieler Woche usually takes place at the end of June. This year everything is different: In June the Kieler Woche took place as an esports event and now in the first week of September the real sailing regatta will take place under specific conditions. Register now
Dirk, the organizer of the sailing regatta, will tell us about the right approach (online vs. onsite) to further develop the 138-year-old event. He will answer three questions, that are relevant for all CIOs:
- How much of a hundred year old communication culture can be digitally intercepted? And for how long? Teams and Zoom may help in the corona crisis to keep companies and associations together for a while. Organizational questions can be answered in this way. But communication always has a relationship level. How does Dirk save this at Kieler Woche and at Wacker Chemie?
- What hygiene concept does he use to make Kieler Woche happen after all? The regatta has long since ceased to be a pure sailing event where all the aerosols in the Kiel Fjord are blown away by the wind. The Kieler Woche is also a folk festival, usually on more than ten parallel stages. Which parts of it can Dirk save? Which concepts can also be implemented in companies
- How can e-sports become so attractive that they save at least a touch of sailing culture into the digital age? Does Dirk himself use apps to sail? Can gamification also be used in everyday business?
The Kieler Woche will also be a test run for us on how real meetings between CIOmovers can be realized again. We will initially visit Dirk only with our filming team, which will be broadcast from Kiel – similar to the virtual CIOmove at the end of June which replaced our real meeting in Moscow.
Upcoming events:
On the first of October there will then be a real event with CIO participation. We will visit the production of Rittal in Haiger. Rittal owner Friedhelm Loh will show us his new smart factory and his car museum.
P.S.: The “Virtual Reality CIOmove”, that was originally scheduled for Sept. 8 will take place in October. We are still having problems getting enough headsets for the event. Sorry for this. But anyway: There is much to learn by the insights you get from Dirk, the Kieler Woche and Wacker Chemie.
