In the air and on the water: Drones (the good ones) in the Port of Barcelona | Copyright: Port of Barcelona

This year’s Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo conference kicks off on November 10 in Barcelona. As every year, CIOmove will host a meetup the day before. Actually, this year we have two highlights to offer:

  1. Catalina Grimalt Falcó, member of the board at the Port of Barcelona, will give us some background about Europe’s largest cruise ship harbor. Up to 30,000 guests can arrive in Barcelona in a single day. Of course, the freight business continues alongside this. Unfortunately, the harbor basin is also home to unwanted traders: drug dealers are increasingly using drones for the last mile to deliver to customers. Catalina explains how the port and police are counteracting this activity.
  2. Matthias Moritz, CIOmover from the very beginning, is no longer CIO of Bayer Healthcare or Almirall, but he is still our man in Barcelona. He knows the best bars and restaurants in the city – as well as the most interesting startups. His startup, Omnios, will introduce us to a translation tool used by both the Barcelona Police Department and FC Barcelona. Lazy footballers will find it just as difficult to resist the instructions of coach Hansi Flick as immigrants who pretend to have comprehension problems.
