This was the CIOmove 2021

CIOmove 2021 in Germany was a great success – albeit limited in number. Due to Corona restrictions, only 50 CIOmovers were admitted. Special thanks to our hosts who made the event possible in these difficult times:

Jan Brecht, CIO of Daimler
Mattias Ulbrich, CIO of Porsche, and
Helmut Krcmar, Managing Director of the TUM Campus Heilbronn

Starting on Thursday, 07.07. in Stuttgart, we first visited the Daimler Museum before Jan Brecht taught us about the innovation culture at Daimler and the importance of data for this.

The next morning (Friday, 08.07.) the day started with an innovative keynote by Porsche CIO, Mattias Ulbrich, before we e-biked up the Neckar towards Ludwigsburg. In small groups, we cycled through nature with low noise and emissions and used the time on the bike to exchange ideas on current topics.

On Saturday (09.07.) Prof. Dr. Krcmar welcomed us at his campus of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Heilbronn. Alexander Buresch, Stephan Brand and Jürgen Sturm introduced us to the world of Catena-X. “More than just a car solution” was the motto of their discussion, which certainly gave valuable insights to all colleagues, no matter from which industry.

The Bildungscampus Heilbronn, which promotes innovative projects in the region and acts as a kind of excelerator of the region for technology and innovation, hosted us for the typical CIOmove group discussions.

In the evening, we took the opportunity to get to know the region and its tradition. We ended the day with a vineyard tour in breathtaking scenery and enchanting weather.

On Sunday (09.07.), the last day of our tour, we first listened to the guys from Audi, who of course could not be missed during our visit to Baden-Württemberg. CIO Frank Loydl talked about how Audi is currently developing more of its own software again. Ivan Jukic, CIO Audi’s Neckarsulm, talked about the groundbreaking transformations currently being undertaken at Audi’s largest production facility.

Besides all this, we learned from Jens Förderer, Professor at the TU Munich, Heilbronn, about competition within the platform economy and how to keep up with our own against those of Apple and Co.

After 3 exciting days the participants went home. All CIOs were happy to finally be able to exchange ideas in person again. We are already looking forward to the next CIOmove in 2022 – hopefully in Moscow.
